George John Barnett (born 11 December 1993), better known by the stage name AKA George, is an English songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist.
Early life
George was born in Rugby, Warwickshire. He began to learn the piano and drums at an early age and later progressed to guitar and other instruments. He won the UK National Young Drummer of the Year competition in 2008.[1]
Music career
2010–2014: Career beginnings
George began recording his own material in 2010, under his birth name. He played all the instruments on his first EP, Sierra Planes. His first full-length album 17 Days was then released as a free download from The Pirate Bay in March 2012.[2] A compiled collection of songs released throughout 2011 when he released one song every seventeen days,[3] the album was successful among file-sharing websites.[4]
George's mixtape The Red Tape was released in September 2013,[5] preluding a tour with singer-songwriters Frank Hamilton and Orla Gartland. He finished his third EP on the road, mixing in hotel rooms as the tour progressed.[6] Animal Keeper debuted on BBC Radio 1, but failed to chart.
2015: AKA George
On 6 March 2015, George began releasing his songs under the name AKA George. Inertia, the first song in his First Friday series [7] debuted on BBC Introducing.[8] On 4 April "Hanging By A Thread" received its BBC Radio premier.[9]

Videos
George has directed past videos himself. A 10 part video series was released in July 2014 called The George Barnett Diaries which followed George as he toured Europe and recorded new songs. It has since been deleted from his YouTube channel.
