Garkha (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Hindi: गरखा विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is an assembly constituency in Saran district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is reserved for scheduled castes.

Overview

As per Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies Order, 2008, No. 119 Garkha (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is composed of the following: Garkha community development block; Badlu Tola, Lohari, Purwi Telpa, Sherpur, Bishunupura, Khalpura Bala, Maharajganj, Chirand, Jalalpur, Bhairopur Nijamat, Dumari, Musepur, Raipur Bingawa and Kotwa Patti Rampur gram panchayats of Chapra CD Block.[1]

Garkha (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is part of No. 20 Saran (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]It was earlier part of Chapra (Lok Sabha constituency).

Election results

1977-2010

In the 2010 state assembly elections, Gyan Chand Manjhi of BJP won the Garkha assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Muneshwar Chaudhary of RJD.[2] Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Gyan Chand Manjhi of BJP defeated Raghunandan Manjhi of Congress in October 2005. Raghunandan Manjhi, Independent, defeated Muneshwar Chaudhary of RJD in February 2005. Muneshwar Chaudhary of RJD defeated Amrit Chaudhary of SAP in 2000. Muneshwar Chaudhary of JD defeated Raghunandan Manjhi of Congress in 1995. Muneshwar Chaudhary, Independent, defeated Amrit Chaudhary of JD in 1990. Raghunandan Manjhi of Congress defeated Ram Sunder Das of JP in 1985 and Amrit Chaudhary of Janata Party (Secular – Charan Singh) in 1980. Muneshwar Chaudhary of JP defeated Raghunandan Manjhi of Congress in 1977.[3]
