The Fugueijiao Lighthouse (Chinese: 富貴角燈塔; pinyin: Fùguìjiǎo Dēngtǎ) is a lighthouse in Shimen District, New Taipei, Taiwan.[1][2]
History
The lighthouse was built under the Japanese rule of Taiwan originally for the construction of submarine cable. After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to China in 1945, the lighthouse underwent renovation and its function was changed to aid the navigation for maritime pilot at sea. The lighthouse was opened for public for the very first time on 5 September 2015.[3][4]
According to a signboard near the lighthouse, the name Hoek (cape) was noted in the journal of a Dutch missionary during the Yongzheng era (1722-35) and was transliterated into Hokkien as hukui (富貴; hù-kùi).[5]
Architecture
The lighthouse stands at a height of 14.3 meters.
