Fernando Pedro Rodríguez Borrego (April 29, 1924 in Havana, Cuba - June 11, 2009 in Miami, Florida) is a former pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Chicago Cubs (1958) and Philadelphia Phillies (1959). Listed at 6'0. 180 lb., he batted and threw right-handed.
The memory of Rodriguez's undistinguished career would be revived every spring in the 1960s and 1970s when Chicago columnist Mike Royko would offer his "Cubs Quiz"[1] about obscure players and facts, which was typically the same quiz every year. He made fun of Rodriguez for wearing a large golden earring, an unusual practice in the 1950s. He also pointed out that "Rodriguez was undefeated in his rookie season (at age 38). He also failed to win a game." Rodriguez, in fact, played seven games for the Cubs and one for the Phillies, with a large overall ERA of 8.68, and did not have a decision.
