Frank "The Wise Guy" Buglioni (born 18 April 1989) is a British professional boxer from London, England and current holder of the WBA International Super Middleweight belt. He is ranked 4 in the world by the WBA sanction. Buglioni is trained by Irish boxing brothers Paschal Collins and former world champion Steve Collins. He is promoted by Frank Warren.

Buglioni was selected to train with the Great Britain Olympic team in 2010. However, he decided to leave the amateur ranks in favour of the professionals in November 2011.

Buglioni trains at The Celtic Warrior Boxing Gym in Dublin, Ireland.

Amateur career

Buglioni has always been an avid sportsman competing in swimming, athletics and football. Aged 13 he took up boxing in an attempt to further increase his fitness, strength and tenacity.[2]

It quickly became apparent that Buglioni had a natural talent in the ring. His ability and love for the sport led to him dismissing the other activities in order to pursue what was to be an illustrious amateur career.[3]

At the age of 14 Buglioni joined the Waltham Forest Amateur Boxing Club and after 4 fights and 4 wins it was decided that he would move on to train at the Repton Boxing Club in Bethnal Green under the tutelage of head coach Tony Burns. Repton Boxing Club had previous trained boxers such as Audley Harrison, Darren Barker, Maurice Hope and Andrew Lowe. The gym itself has featured widely on TV, film and print.[4]

Buglioni went on to have 70 amateur fights, winning 60 and losing 10, with over 50% of the amateur fights won by KO.[5]

He won 2 national titles and also picked up various medals, whilst representing his country in international tournaments, most notable of which a silver medal against the World No.1 Vijender Singh in the Commonwealth Federations Tournament in Delhi 2010.[6]

Out of the ring

Aside from boxing, Buglioni has worked as a model and actor in numerous publications, magazines, short films and advertisements, including:

A short documentary on his early career, A day in the life of Frank Buglioni, was produced by Trace Sport Stars in 2012.

Buglioni has been a regular guest on talkSPORT Radio shows since 2013. He has appeared as a studio guest twice on ITV London news.

Buglioni starred in the music video "Break My Nose" by rock band Bleech filmed at the Repton Boxing Club, London in 2012.

Within the boxing genre, he has been involved in several features. His training routine and day to day lifestyle was documented during a short film by BoxNation in their mini series Fighter by Trade. He featured in an Askmen.com video series to explain boxing tips for fitness. Buglioni was the face and narrator for a selection of short instructional boxing videos for ExpertBoxing.com. He also starred alongside UK YouTuber KSIOlajidebt for a "RuleEmSports" boxing segment.

Buglioni is currently associated with the following brands amongst others: BetVictor, Forte Village Resort, La Manga Club, Pro Athletic Supplements, Gatorade, Speedflex Gym and London based construction company W1.

Personal life

As his surname suggests, Buglioni has Italian heritage and can trace his roots back to Naples, Italy. His great grandfather emigrated to London in the 1920s. He was born and raised in Enfield, London where he still resides between training camps. He has a younger brother and two elder sisters.

After achieving his International Baccalaureate Diploma from Highlands School Sixth Form, Buglioni attended Westminster University to study Building Surveying. He chose to put his education on hold when he was selected for the GB Olympic team. Buglioni has stated he would like to go back and complete his degree.[7]

Buglioni's boxing heroes are Oscar De La Hoya and Arturo "Thunder" Gatti.[8]

Buglioni's motto is "The harder I train, the luckier I get."[9]

Before Buglioni took boxing up full-time, he worked as a building surveyor. Outside of the ring, he enjoys spending his free time with friends and family and enjoys film, music and other sports. He supports London football team Chelsea.[10]
