There are several football rivalries amongst clubs in Chile.

Super Clásico

Colo Colo vs Universidad de Chile

The rivalry between Colo Colo and Universidad de Chile is the biggest in Chile. It was first played in 1938.^[1]

Clásico Universitario (The Varsity Derby)

Universidad de Chile vs Universidad Católica

This match, which represents the oldest derby in Chile, is between the football teams of Universidad de Chile and Universidad Católica, that represent two of the most important universities and football teams in the country. Originally University clubs, they turned professional in the 1930s and kept their amateur names.

The first professional match was in 1937, but before, Universidad Católica had defeated Universidad de Chile more often as amateur sides. The biggest goal difference in a match was Universidad Católica 5:0 Universidad de Chile, but Universidad de Chile has won it in more occasions. The last time the match was played was in April fifth, 2015 in the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo, and Universidad de Chile won it 2–4.

Unión Española vs. Palestino vs. Audax Italiano^[12][13][14]

There are three traditional rivals: Unión Española, founded by Spanish immigrants; Palestino, a team founded by members of the Palestinian diaspora living in Chile; and Audax Italiano, which originated from their local Italian counterpart, hence the name of the derbies. Unión Española is also the second oldest club of the Primera División Chilena with 113 years (behind Santiago Wanderers with 118 years) and all three clubs have a long history of rivalry. All three teams are based in Santiago.^[15][16][17]

Clásico Porteño (The Seaport Derby)

Santiago Wanderers vs. Everton

It is played between Santiago Wanderers and Everton, and is very significant for the people of the zone, because Santiago Wanderers is from Valparaíso, a city constructed around the port and now in decadence, and Everton is from Viña del Mar, a richer and tourist-orientated city that located just a few kilometers at the north of Valparaíso.

The rivalry between the two teams is evident. Over the last few years Everton started to display a more colourful game play and with a big financial input from the local authorities, they brought new players which helped them win the most recent derbies. One of the most notable games was on 29 September 2013, after 5 players were sent off (2 from Wanderers and 3 from Everton), Wanderers eventually winning 3-0; it was described as one of the bloodiest matches seen so far.^[18][19]

Santiago Morning vs. Deportes Magallanes^[20]

Contested by Santiago Morning and Deportes Magallanes, two teams which were very successful upon their inception and the beginning of Chilean football history, and are one of the oldest clubs in the country. The rivalry is one of the oldest in the country.

Clásico del Cobre (Copper Derby)

Cobreloa vs Cobresal^[21][22]

Two teams associated with the copper rich regions and the industry Cobreloa and Cobresal contest the derby since the late 70's, when the clubs were founded.^[23]

La Serena vs. Coquimbo Unido^[33]

Club de Deportes La Serena is associated with the upper class while Coquimbo Unido is considered a traditionally a club of the working class. The context is similar to Clasico porteño, La Serena the beautiful city against Coquimbo the "pirate port". This derby has historically dominated by Coquimbo Unido.^[34]
