Fly Salone is an airline based in the United Kingdom that operates scheduled and charter flights between London and Freetown, Sierra Leone.[2] The airline conducted its first flight on 11 December 2015.

Fly Salone's sole aircraft, a Boeing 757-200 registered TF-FIW, without titles in 2014

History

Fly Salone was created in response to British Airways' suspension of nonstop flights from London Heathrow Airport to Freetown in August 2014, in the wake of the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa.[1][3] In November 2015 the World Health Organization declared Sierra Leone free of Ebola, and in early December the UK Civil Aviation Authority lifted its ban on flights to the country.[1]

The airline is registered in the United Kingdom, however it serves as the flag carrier of Sierra Leone.[3] The management team is entirely Sierra Leonean.[4]

On 11 December 2015, the airline operated its first flight, departing London Gatwick Airport at night and arriving in Freetown Lungi International Airport the following morning. Flights operate twice a week using a Boeing 757 leased from Icelandair.[3]

All flights are initially operated by senior flight attendants from Icelandair. Fly Salone will be training junior flight attendants at Gatwick Airport as well as groundcrew in Freetown.[3][5]
