State Road 681 (SR 681) is a four-mile-long spur of Interstate 75 (SR 93) near Nokomis, Florida. The road was formerly the southern terminus of the expressway in the early 1980s. Interstate 75 can only be entered going northbound and exited on to SR 681 southbound. There are no buildings or services on SR 681. Its primary purpose is to exit I-75 to (and enter I-75 from) the Tamiami Trail (US 41/SR 45).
Route description
SR 681 begins at an interchange with US 41/SR 45 in Nokomis, heading north as a four-lane freeway. The road passes through woods and fields, coming to a bridge over the Legacy Trail, a rail trail. The freeway heads northeast through more rural areas, coming to an at-grade intersection with Honore Avenue accessible from the southbound direction. A short distance later, SR 681 merges onto the northbound direction of I-75/SR 93 at an interchange.[2][3]
History
There have been plans to place three road-level intersections and traffic lights added to State Road 681 sometime after 2006, which would be the first intersections and development on the road. As of 2011, there is one road-level intersection, with Honore Avenue at southbound SR 681; however, the intersection is not accessible to those driving north on SR 681.[4]
Major intersections
The entire route is in Sarasota County.
