Flag of Upper Volta

Proportions 2:3

The flag of Upper Volta was a horizontal tricolour of black, white and red derived from the three main rivers flowing through the country: the Black Volta, White Volta and Red Volta. This flag was adopted on December 9, 1959. The flag was identical to the flag of the German Empire (abolished in 1918).

The flag was changed when Upper Volta became Burkina Faso on 4 August 1984.
