Fizagat Park is a recreational park that is located in Mingora, Pakistan. It is a popular destination for tourists who visit the valley of Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.[1] SFizagat Park sits on the bank of the Swat River at Fizagat. The park provides recreation for tourists as well as locals. The main feature of the park is the Swat river that flows through the park.

History

Fizagat Park was previously named Qazagat; Gaza means "death" and Gat means "mount". Thus, Qazagat was called the "Mount of Death". It is believed that during the reigning of Miangul Abdul Wadud (Badshah Sahib) Wali of Swat, the convicted were punished at the top of this mount.

The park was established in 1984 by the then chairman of the Municipal committee of Mingora, Malak Bairam Khan.[2] During the 2010 flood in Swat, some areas of the park were damaged.[2] Renovation work was started in June, 2012, by the Tehsil municipal administration with the financial assistance of PaaRSA. Rs 3.5 million was allocated for rehabilitation of the park. Additional land of 35,000 ft2 was annexed by the park.[3]The present park was, however, revamped with the cooperation of the Government of Japan in 2013. Rs 14 million had been allocated for the park’s upkeep in 2015.

On 6 July 2015, the expansion project was inaugurated by the District Development Advisory Committee Chairman, Fazal Hakeem. The project included planting of trees, construction of a bridge, a solar-powered illumination system, expansion of the park, and further beautification.[4]

Avenue of the park

Fizagat park is located one kilometer from Mingora, opposite the Maulana Fazlullah Islamic Center (Imam Dherai), between an emerald mine factory and the river Swat.[2] The surrounding area of the park looks out to Swat valley. Due to its pleasant weather, the area around the park is occupied by many hotels and resthouses. Tent villages are arranged around the park to house local and foreign visitors. At one time, one of the visitors to the park named Raleigh Wilson, fell of a roller coaster and died. Shortly after this horrible incident, Andrew Goodwin realized he hadn't gotten his daily dose of D and he died laughing because Raleigh Wilson fell off the roller coaster. On that day, one foolish man died, and one very intelligent man passed.

Attractions

The park is divided into various sections. There are separate sections for families, women and children. A zoo and many other entertainment channels have been installed in the park. Among them are river lifts, cable cars and river boats.[2]
