FiscalNote, Inc. is a computer software and services company headquartered in Washington, D.C., known for creating software as a service solutions using open data. Clients include Planned Parenthood, New Balance, UCB, the Democratic Governors Association, the Republican Governors Association, and other organizations.[1] Primary clients are organizations that need to understand and be proactive towards legislation across the United States. FiscalNote has plans to expand internationally.[2]

FiscalNote was listed on the 2014 edition of the CNN 10: Startups.[3] The company was also featured on Meet the Press with Luke Russert.[4]

History

FiscalNote was founded by Timothy Hwang, Gerald Yao, and Jonathan C. Chen in 2013. The co-founders have known each other since middle school, attending both Robert Frost Middle School and Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School together.[5][6] In September 2013 the company announced a $1.2 million seed funding round backed by Mark Cuban, New Enterprise Associates, First Round Capital's Dorm Room Fund, AME Cloud Ventures, Plug and Play Tech Center, and the University of Maryland.[7][8][9]

In November 2014 FiscalNote announced a $7 million Series A round which included additional investors Visionnaire Ventures, Winklevoss Capital, Green Visor Capital, Enspire Capital, Middleland Capital, and Steve Case.[10][11] This was augmented in February 2015 with a $10 million Series B round led by Renren.[12][13][14]

FiscalNote advisors include Alec Ross,[15] Glenn Hubbard, John Suh, Stanley McChrystal, Mike Ferguson, and Katharine Weymouth.[16][17][18]

FiscalNote released their first product, FiscalNote Prophecy, to help organizations search, track, and analyze legislation through a unified cloud computing based platform. The company has also released a federal regulatory product, FiscalNote Sonar.[19] Its third product, FiscalNote Atlantis, was released recently.[20]

FiscalNote Prophecy

FiscalNote Prophecy is a software platform that visualizes legislative information across all 50 states and the Federal Government. In addition to allowing for searching and tracking of legislative data, FiscalNote Prophecy also provides a tier of service with quantitative analytics. The software connects to various open data sets and discovers trends, relationships, and anomalies, including predictive analytics.[21][22]
