FileHippo is a download website that offers computer software for Windows. The website's software is grouped by freeware, shareware, and open-source. The website also offers its own FileHippo App Manager, a free program that scans a computer and reports any out-dated software, offering download links to more recent versions.[2][3][4] FileHippo does not accept software submissions from publishers.[5] As of November 2015, FileHippo is estimated to be worth over $13,000,000.[6]
History
FileHippo was established in 2004 by the UK-based technology company Well Known Media.[7]

Software hosting
The website has a section that contains a list of most recently updated computer programs, and another section which lists the most popular downloads. The computer programs are organized (e.g. "browsers", "messaging", "security", "developer", "multimedia", and several more). The site contains information about programs, a link to the most recent version, as well as links to older versions. Registration is not required to download a program.
Software news
In January 2014, a news section was added, covering the latest software and computing news.[8]
Funding
The website gets its funding from user donations and third-party advertising.[5]

- Third-party advertising: FileHippo has a page that contains information on how advertisers can promote their products through the website. Advertising is handled via various exchanges and directly.
FileHippo briefly tested the InstallCore installer on some downloads. Following user feedback and more analysis it was decided to not add any bundlers, installers or other wrappers to downloads.
