Fear of Men is a Brighton-based band that formed in early 2011. On February 12, 2013 the band released a reverse chronological compilation of their early singles through Kanine Records called Early Fragments.[1] The band released their debut album Loom on April 21, 2014 (UK) and April 22, 2014 (U.S.) also through Kanine Records.[2] A limited edition Record Store Day Vinyl was released on April 19, 2014.[3]

History

Fear of Men came together in early 2011 after Jessica Weiss and Daniel Falvey met. For her art degree, Weiss had been creating soundtracks for her short films and she met Falvey at one the exhibitions for her films. Falvey, a guitarist and a fellow art student, liked her recordings and they started working together to create a more pop sound. They teamed up and made several lo-fi demos in the hopes of attracting other players for the band. Quickly thereafter, Alex Fynn O'Neill and Michael Miles joined on bass and drums, respectively. Weiss became the lead vocalist and also played the guitar.[1] Soon after their formation, they released a cassette that was well-received and began to perform at gigs as a support group. Over the course of the following two years, they released several 7" records on small DIY labels like Sex Is Disgusting and Italian Beach Babes. They continued to work on their music to create their crooning indie pop sound. In early 2013, Kanine Records released a compilation of their early singles called Early Fragments.[1] During this time, some bandmembers had relocated and there were some shifts in line up leaving original members Weiss, Falvey and Miles as a trio.[1] They worked on their debut LP Loom, which was released in late April 2014 to critical acclaim from blogs like Pitchfork[4] and mentions from Stereogum.[5] They preceded to go on tour in North America and Europe supporting The Pains of Being Pure At Heart.[6]
