Fastlane (2016) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It will take place on February 21, 2016 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.[2] It will be the second event in the Fastlane chronology.
Background
Fastlane will consist of professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines that play out on WWE's primary television programs, Raw and SmackDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.[3][4]
At the Royal Rumble event, Triple H won the Royal Rumble match by last eliminating Dean Ambrose to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.[5] The following night on Raw, Stephanie McMahon announced a triple threat match featuring Ambrose, previous champion Roman Reigns, and Brock Lesnar at the event, with the winner facing Triple H at WrestleMania 32 for the championship.[6]
At Royal Rumble, Kalisto defeated Alberto Del Rio to win the WWE United States Championship.[5] Del Rio then invoked his rematch clause to face Kalisto for the title at the event.[7]
On the February 1 episode of Raw, Brie Bella defeated WWE Divas Champion Charlotte.[7] The following week on Raw, it was announced that Charlotte would defend the title against Brie Bella at the event.[8]
On the February 1 episode of Raw, Sasha Banks announced her split from Team B.A.D., causing her former teammates Naomi and Tamina to attack Banks during her match against Becky Lynch. Lynch assisted Banks, setting up a tag team match between the two teams for the event.[7][8]
