Farm to Market Road 174 or FM 174 is a two-lane, state-maintained highway that connects small farming communities of Archer, Clay, and Montague counties in north central Texas.
History
FM 174 was designated on June 11, 1945 as a route from SH 148 east to Buffalo Springs.[1] On May 26, 1949, it extended east to the end of FM 176 at Vashti and replaced FM 176 from Vashti to Bellevue.[1] On December 17, 1952, the portion from Vashti to Bellevue was transferred to FM 1288 and it instead extended east from Vashti to US 287 in Bowie.[1] On September 29, 1954, it extended west from SH 148 to US 281.[1] On April 2, 1980, it extended east along the old location of US 287 from the new location of US 287 to US 81, completing its current route.[1]
