Fairfax is a village in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,699 at the 2010 census.[7]

Geography

Fairfax is located at 39°8′34″N 84°23′46″W / 39.14278°N 84.39611°W / 39.14278; -84.39611 (39.142760, -84.396188).[8]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.76 square miles (1.97 km2), all land.[2] Fairfax feeds into the Mariemont City School District, which includes Mariemont High School.

2010 census

As of the census[4] of 2010, there were 1,699 people, 709 households, and 455 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,235.5 inhabitants per square mile (863.1/km2). There were 778 housing units at an average density of 1,023.7 per square mile (395.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.8% White, 2.4% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.8% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.

There were 709 households of which 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.9% were married couples living together, 16.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 35.8% were non-families. 29.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.97.

The median age in the village was 37.7 years. 24.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 29.6% were from 25 to 44; 27.8% were from 45 to 64; and 11.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 46.5% male and 53.5% female.

2000 census

As of the census[6] of 2000, there were 1,938 people, 771 households, and 531 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,563.9 people per square mile (984.6/km²). There were 795 housing units at an average density of 1,051.8 per square mile (403.9/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.54% White, 1.08% African American, 0.15% Native American, 1.08% Asian, 0.05% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.21% of the population.

There were 771 households out of which 32.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 26.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the village the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 88.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $41,418, and the median income for a family was $47,778. Males had a median income of $37,250 versus $26,960 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,699. About 2.6% of families and 5.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.2% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those age 65 or over.
