The European Union Satellite Centre (EU SatCen; previously EUSC) is the agency of the European Union (EU) that gathers information through satellite imagery. The centre is in Torrejón de Ardoz in Spain. Other countries who have an association agreement with the SatCen can also use its resources. Although it is autonomous in its daily operations, the High Representative Federica Mogherini is responsible for its operational direction. Since 2015 the Director of SatCen is Pascal Legai, from France.
History
Established in 2002 to replace the Western European Union Satellite Centre, the centre is one of the functions transferred from the Western European Union (WEU) to the European Union (EU) and its Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).
