Esteban Alegre (born-16th century) was a Criollo landowner and conquistador, was one of the neighbors founders of Buenos Aires.[1]
Biography
Alegre was born in Asunción, he arrived with the delegation led by Juan de Garay, for the second foundation of Buenos Aires in 1580.[2] The same year of the foundation, Alegre received 3000 varas of land located in border of Riachuelo, (La Matanza).[3] In 1582, had received encomienda of the tribe Alacas (of Guaraní origen) commanded by the cacique Suguna.[4]
Esteban was the son of Luis Alegre and his second wife Catalina de Lis, daughter of Dionis de Lys (conquistador born in Flanders).
