"Escaping" is the 1989 debut solo single from New Zealand singer Margaret Urlich. The song charted at number one for three weeks in the New Zealand singles chart,[1] later reaching number 17 in Australia.[2] The song is the opening track on Urlich's debut album Safety in Numbers, and also features on her 1994 live album Live.

Awards

At the 1989 New Zealand Music Awards, "Escaping" won Single of the Year. At the same awards, Urlich won Best Female Vocalist, and her debut album Safety in Numbers won Album of the Year and Best Cover Design.[3]

Other versions

"Escaping" was first covered by UK pop trio Asia Blue in 1992, with their version reaching number 50 on the UK singles chart.[9] In 1996, British singer Dina Carroll released a cover version of "Escaping" which reached number three on the UK chart, her highest-equal charting single.[10] The video clip heavily featuring the documentary of Balinese people culture and social life.[11]
