Eric Lu (born December 15, 1997) is an American classical pianist. Laureate of the 4th prize at the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland. He was also the 1st prize winner at the 2015 US National Chopin Piano Competition in Miami, USA.[1][2][3]

Biography

Eric Lu started piano studies at the age of 6 with Dorothy Shi (杨镜钏), near Boston, MA. Later on, he enrolled at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, where he studied piano with Alexander Korsantia and A. Ramon Rivera. In 2013, he was admitted into the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he currently studies with Jonathan Biss and Robert McDonald. He is also a pupil of the pianist Dang Thai Son.

In October 2015, he had a distinguished participation at the XVII International Chopin Piano Competition, winning the 4th prize at the age of 17, becoming one of the youngest laureates in the history of the competition. One of the few pianists to put forth the 24 Preludes, Op. 28 in the 3rd stage, he performed Chopin Concerto No. 1 in E minor in the final round with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. Earlier in 2014, he won the Moscow International Fryderyk Chopin Competition for Young Pianists,[4] and the US National Chopin Competition in Miami(2015).[5] Shortly afterwards, he performed a recital at Carnegie Hall in New York,[6] as well as the 70th International Chopin Festival in Duszniki, Poland.[7]
