Equator Academy of Art
Equator Academy of Art, commonly known as Equator or EAA, is a private educational institute providing specialist Art & Design courses in Penang, Malaysia. It is located on the island of Penang in the heart of George Town. Its two campuses are situated in Leith Street (opposite the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion) and in Amoy Lane.
Background of Institution
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year, Equator, established in 1987, operates in two campuses to conduct its courses of study. One occupies a modern, fully air-conditioned five-storey building in the centre of Georgetown Penang, while the other is housed in a shanty heritage mansion at Leith Street Penang.
Equator prides itself as one of the most established and renowned art, media and design colleges in Malaysia, offering students with well-structured courses, up-to-date curriculum and comprehensive training in art, media and design industry to enable them to pursue a successful career in art and design.
Its success is mainly contributed by the fact that it is the only college offering Diploma in Design courses.
Academic Strengths
Equator's academic strengths lies in its commitment to engage qualified and experienced teaching staff with the majority of them being trained overseas, so as to ensure that students receive the special edge in art education.
Courses run by Equator are approved by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and accredited/ approved by the National Accreditation Board of Malaysia. Students who wish to further their studies are encourage to apply to one of Equator's 14 overseas university partners for the award of the bachelor's degree which would be issued by the foreign institution.
Its staff and lecturers are Ph.D, Masters and bachelor's degree holders, coming from as far as Mexico to highly qualified local Malaysian lecturers who have graduated from the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Apart from being educated abroad, some lecturers have at least 3 years of teaching experience and are also equipped with years of industrial working experience.
Almost all students are employed upon graduation, with full employment rate in the Interior and Architectural discipline. However the same cannot be said for the Graphic & Multimedia students.

Academic Facilities & Resources
Both campuses are fully air-conditioned. Equator has lecture halls, computer and multimedia studios, PC & Mac lab, fine arts studios, a photography studio, a dark room, a library, a multi-purpose gallery, an ample number of classrooms and broadband Internet access over Wi-Fi.
There is also three state of the art computer and mac lab available for student.
Scholarships and Financial Aids
EAA offers quarter, half and full scholarships to selected deserving students based on their academic merits and family background. Additionally, students may also wish to apply to commercial banks for study loans. Equator is also involved in the Star Education Fund, where students can apply for full scholarships.
