Emma Green, a southern belle, volunteered as a nurse during the American Civil War.

Emma Green, a southern belle, volunteered as a nurse when the Union seized her family's hotel to serve as a hospital, during the American Civil War.[1]

In 2016 PBS broadcast Mercy Street, a six part series based on the hospital in the Green family hotel.[1][2][3]

The historical Emma Green was also the sweetheart of Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Stringfellow, a Confederate spy.[1] The couple wed, after the war.
