Emeryville is an Amtrak station in Emeryville, California that replaced the older Amtrak 16th Street Station in Oakland. The original Beaux-Arts Oakland 16th Street Station was declared unsafe due to unreinforced masonry after sustaining damage in the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. Emeryville opened on August 13, 1993, although service continued at Oakland for another year.[2]
The station is served by Amtrak California's Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins and Amtrak's Coast Starlight. It is also the western terminus of Amtrak's California Zephyr, as there is no wye at Amtrak's new Oakland station near Jack London Square, and it would be dangerous to back a long train along Oakland's Embarcadero to the Union Pacific yards. Amtrak Thruway buses transport California Zephyr passengers between Emeryville and Oakland and San Francisco. The bus services Emery Go-Round and AC Transit also stop at or near the station.
Of the 74 California stations served by Amtrak, Emeryville was the fourth busiest in FY2012, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 1,607 passengers daily.[3]

Transit connections
Several AC Transit bus lines stop in the vicinity (but not directly at the station), including the F Transbay bus line to San Francisco. This is in addition to free Emery-Go-Round service and Amtrak Thruway Bus 34's two daily trips to Stockton from San Francisco.[4]
