Ektron was a privately held software company co-founded by brothers William Rogers and Edward Rogers[1] based in Nashua, New Hampshire. It provides web content management software. Ektron's primary products are Ektron CMS (content management system) and Digital Experience Hub, which are all built on the Microsoft .NET Framework. Version 9.1 of the Ektron CMS was released in April 2014.[2]
History
Ektron was founded in 1998 with its original product, eWebEditPro, a browser-based HTML editor.[3] Ektron entered the web content management market in the early 2000s with the release of CMS100 and CMS200.[4] It moved to the Microsoft .NET platform with the release of CMS400.NET in 2003.[5]
Acquisition by Accel-KKR
In 2014, Ektron was acquired[6] by private equity firm Accel-KKR, who had previously been a minority investor. Shortly after the acquisition, Ektron President Tim Mckinnon and CEO and Founder William Rogers left the company. Ektron initially denied the acquisition, until an internal document was leaked on the internet.[7]
In January 2015, Accel-KKR merged Ektron with its competitor EPiServer. According to Accel-KKR, the company will operate as EPiServer and will continue to keep the Ektron brand. [8]
Market
Ektron has received industry recognition including the 2014 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web Content Management,[9] the 2011 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Social Software,[10] and EContent Magazine’s Top 100 Companies that Matter Most.[11]
According to Ektron, more than 3700 organizations use Ektron CMS.[12]
