Eastern Christian Academy

Eastern Christian Academy is a private 6th-12th grade Christian school located in Elkton, Maryland.[1]

Football program

The football program was established in 2012 playing three games and competing a full schedule in 2013.

In 2013, the football team played many regional powers including Calvert Hall College High School, St. Edward High School (Lakewood, Ohio), Saint Ignatius High School (Cleveland), and St. Peter's Preparatory School.[2] In 2014, Eastern Christian is scheduled to play the most challenging high school football schedule to date . They will play 6 teams that finished in the top 100 nationally in 2013,while traveling to Texas, NJ, SC, OH, and DC in the process.

Controversy

In 2012 the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association refused to sanction Eastern Christian Academy and this caused many of their opponents to drop them from their schedule. The Maryland State Department of Education voiced concerns with the school including the power and influence of the football program at the school.[3]

Further, the quality of the academic curriculum has been questioned and doubts exist if graduation from the school would allow a student-athlete to meet NCAA eligibility requirements.[4]
