Jonathon Ng (born December 23, 1995), better known by his alias EDEN (formerly The Eden Project), is an Irish singer, musician, instrumentalist, producer and songwriter from Dublin. Categorized as an idiosyncratic artist, his music takes listeners through a barrage of emotions and feeling just as reading through a novel.[1]

He has so far released his inaugural full-length album End Credits EP , released through his label MCMXCV and a UK based record label Seeking Blue, has amassed nearly 4.5 million plays on Soundcloud [2] with its featured song End Credits receiving 1.6 million plays alone. The entirety of the EP is written, performed and produced by himself.

History

Early life

Born and raised in Dublin, EDEN was trained with classical violin and theory from the age of 7 and then later taught himself other instruments like guitar, drums, piano etc. He also started to self compose and produce music. He initially released music in his former alias The Eden Project but changed to EDEN in April 2015 for a fresh start on a new genre of music.[3] He has also collaborated with various musicians such as Puppet, Pierce Fulton and Ryan Hemsworth in a variety of songs.

It’s kind of about just experiencing things and being in wonder of everything which is kind of the underlying theme of the EP and a lot of the stuff I make. Just love for experience, and life… in all its aspects.

Entrance EP

Entrance EP, released in October 2014, was one of EDEN's earlier EPs, consisting of mostly electronic dance music. A particular track released with the EP was one of the biggest turning points for EDEN's new sound. Released as a hidden track due to being different to his at the time typical electric dance tracks and unlikely to be enjoyed by his fans at the time, "Circles" was an unexpected hit. After seeing the success of the song, it was uploaded to SoundCloud and from that point on, EDEN grew out of dance and into his current indie pop/hip hop sound.

And that EP changed everything for me. Especially “Circles“. That song has the worst production on the EP, and was something I didn’t think any of my followers at the time would like (808’s, hip hop influence, weird no drop structure, etc) so I made it a semi hidden bonus track. But so many people said they loved it that I uploaded it to Soundcloud eventually and it is actually the most popular track off of the EP I think, given that Lost was uploaded to NCS. So as a result I’ve taken that a bit further and am currently working on two songs more in that kind of vein. Not really because people liked it, but because I’ve gotten so out of EDM culture I guess and really really into R&B/hip hop and all things Lido/Flume.

End Credits EP

End Credits EP was written and recorded during spring 2015 and released initially with two songs Nocturne (June 26, 2015) and Gravity (July 15, 2015) and the complete album released worldwide on August 8, 2015 on various platforms like Spotify and Soundhound.[6] Containing 6 songs and an additional work, it has accumulated around 4.5 million plays on Soundcloud with the song End Credits receiving 1.6 million plays. A lush convergence of future bass meeting pop, End Credits is filled with emotions over a chilled beat and gentle synth work before exploding into an epic chorus.[7] The album is free to download from his website and it also features a collaboration from Leah Kelly, a budding artist.

2015-present

EDEN has also released a cover of the song Billie Jean on November 23, 2015 with his own style by adding a flare of organic instruments and electronic influence and has been played almost a million times on Spotify in its first week of release and has been available for free download.[8]
