Driving license in the Philippines

There are three types of driver's license in the Philippines, Student Permit, Non-Professional driver's license, and Professional Driver's license. The minimum age for driving in the Philippines is 17 years old provided that the driver has a student permit and is accompanied by a person with a valid driver's license.

An applicant can only apply for a Non-Professional Driver's License one month after acquiring a "Student Permit" and 6 months after for a Professional Driver's License.

An applicant must pass both the LTO Written Exam and Driving Exam before being granted with a Non-Professional / Professional driver's license. If the applicant fails the tests, the applicant must wait for another month before being able to take the tests again.

The applicant must present the Official Receipt (Blue Paper) and student permit when applying for a Non-Professional or Professional driver's license.

Use in other countries

As of April 16, 2010 an agreement was signed between the Filipino and Spanish governments allowing Filipinos to use their Philippine driver's license in Spain.

The Philippines driver's license can also be used in Australia (albeit they drive on the opposite side of the road), however when renting a car you need to be over the age of 21.

There are no restrictions on seating capacity. You can refer to following information: Non-professional Driver's License of Republic of the Philippines with restriction code 2 permits the holder to drive a vehicle that has a GVW of not more than 4500kg. As for seating capacity, a passenger car means that has not more than nine seating positions (including the driver's seating position)
