Drew Michael Granier (born November 24, 1988) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Ottawa Champions of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.
Career
Granier attended Thibodaux High School in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Playing for the school's baseball team, he was twice named All-State and was also named an All-American by Louisville Slugger.[1] Granier enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he played college baseball for two years. As a freshman, Granier had a 6–5 win–loss record, a 4.31 earned run average (ERA), and 99 strikeouts in 79 1⁄3 innings pitched.[2] As a sophomore, Granier had a 3.71 ERA while striking out 58 batters in 63 innings.[1]
After his sophomore year, Granier transferred to the University of Louisiana at Monroe to play for the Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks baseball team.[2] On March 12, 2011, he was named the Sunbelt Conference and Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week.[3][4] He finished his senior year with a 4–5 record and a 4.40 ERA, leading the Warhawks with 86 strikeouts in 86 innings pitched.[3]
The Oakland Athletics selected Granier in the 32nd round of the 2011 MLB Draft.[3] Pitching for the Arizona League Athletics and the Vermont Lake Monsters of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League, he had a 6–2 record and a 1.75 earned run average in 2011.[5] In 2012, pitching for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League, Granier had 11 wins, a 3.21 ERA, and 167 strikeouts.[1][5] He began the 2013 season with the Stockton Ports of the Class A-Advanced California League. He was named to the roster for the league's All-Star Game, but he did not appear in the game, as he received a promotion to the Midland Rockhounds of the Class AA Texas League in June.[6] Granier opened the 2014 season with Midland,[5] where he had a 4–4 record with a 3.31 ERA and 53 strikeouts. Following the trade of Dan Straily, the Athletics promoted him to the Sacramento River Cats of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League, where he replaced Straily in the starting rotation.[7]
In 2015, he was released by the Athletics and signed with the Ottawa Champions of the independent Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.[8]
