"Dressed for Success" is a song by the Swedish rock duo Roxette, that was released in mid-1989 as the third single from their second studio album, Look Sharp! (1988). Originally, "Dressed for Success" was their first Swedish single to promote the album.
Production
The recording of the song was marked by a dispute between the band members but this apparently contributed to the strength of Marie's performance :-
"I was so mad when I did it. Everything about that session went wrong, we argued about the arrangement, we changed the key, I was dead tired of the song when I went in to do a guide vocal. Did it in one blast and suddenly realized, "hmm... this is it"."
—Marie Fredriksson, Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus! liner notes.[1]
Music video
The music video for the song mostly evolved on the duo performing together in a colorful "nightclub ruins" as several dancers, and even groups of party-goers, swayed into the song.
Charts
"Dressed for Success" was most successful in Sweden and Australia, where it peaked in the top three. It also was a moderate success across North America and Europe, and peaked at #14 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
