Drakesbad (formerly, Drake's Hot Springs, Drake's Place, Hot Springs Valley, and Sifford's) is an unincorporated community in Plumas County, California.[1] It lies at an elevation of 5705 feet (1739 m).[1] Drakesbad is located on Hot Springs Creek, 5.5 miles (8.9 km) west of Mount Harkness.[2] Drakesbad is perhaps most known for the Drakesbad Guest Ranch located there.
History
The place was first called Hot Springs Valley, then Drake's Place and Drake's Hot Springs.[2] The name honors E.R. Drake who settled at the place in 1860s.[2] The name Drakesbad was bestowed when ownership transferred to the Sifford family who substituted -bad (German for "bath" or "spa") for the English.[2]
The Drake post office operated from 1901 to 1902.[2]
