Downtown Music Publishing (Downtown, DMP) is a music rights management firm representing a roster of songwriters and catalogs including The Beatles,[1] John Lennon & Yoko Ono,[2] The Kinks, Hans Zimmer, Mötley Crüe, Seal, and Ellie Goulding, and Neon Trees. Founded in 2007 by Justin Kalifowitz, Downtown is headquartered in the SoHo district of New York City and represents a catalog of more than 80,000 titles.[3] In 2013, Downtown opened its second office in Los Angeles,[4] and in 2014 opened offices in London,[3] Nashville,[5] and Amsterdam.[6]
While music publishing is at the core of DMP's business, the firm has launched several other ventures, including Songtrust,[7] a digital platform for global royalty collection; dms.FM,[8] a production library service; Music and Strategy, a joint-venture with music supervision firm Clearsongs that provides music strategy, licensing and original composition services; and Downtown Music Studios, a recording facility in NYC that has hosted sessions by Adele, Sting, Vampire Weekend, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, and more.
