Fictional character biography

Dontrell Hamilton grew up in Harlem. As a child, Dontrell was frightened by the night's noise and would gradually become accustomed to them and the cockroaches that infested his home. Since then, he has developed an affinity for cockroaches and "Cheese Snipz."[1]

Later on in his life, Dontrell "Cockroach" Hamilton turned to a life of crime and became a mob enforcer for Ray "Piranha" Jones. Both of them bought information from Harry Wentworth that detailed about the Adonis Chemical Company's shipments lethal bacteriological agent. Power Man was hired to find out who Harry Wentworth sold the information to. He arrived just as Dontrell was in the process of killing Harry Wentworth. After a fierce battle with Power Man, Dontrell used his gun "Josh" to blast Harry Wentworth and shoot Power Man enough to dislocate his shoulder.[2] Dontrell retreated back to his apartment where he took a call from Ray "Piranha" Jones. Dontrell went to Ray's penthouse to meet up with him as they finalized their plans for the hijacking. During his investigation after getting his arm popped back in, Power Man was attacked by Dontrell and Ray's men at the Harlem River docks. While Power Man took out the henchmen, Dontrell gassed him out with "Josh" and then tied him to the river's drawbridge before departing. Dontrell and Ray then sent their agents to begin the hijacking until the police arrived. Both of them engaged in the fight even when Power Man joined the fight. Power Man was knocked out during the battle and carried back to Ray's penthouse. Power Man broke free and first took out Dontrell while breaking "Josh" before engaging Ray. As Power Man and Ray fell into the pool of piranhas, Dontrell sealed them in and escaped.[3]

Dontrell and Ray escaped conviction and relocated to Stamford, Connecticut. As the locals wouldn't accept them for their demanding of protection from them, three women Vita Buchetta, Ann Repucci, and Annette Cortese shamed the community for accepting them while secretly planning to use them to start their own criminal careers. When Terror Inc. was hired by an unknown party to kill Ray, Dontrell was unable to defend Ray because "Josh" kept jamming. Upon examining the information from the cartridges, Terror Inc. realized that Ray had hired them. Terror Inc. saved Ray from the mobsters and the arriving Punisher as Dontrell chased after Terror Inc. in their cars as Terror Inc. killed off Ray.[4]

Following the death of Ray, Dontrell was among the several villains that were gathered by Nightshade to attack Black Panther. The attack on Black Panther was a delaying tactic orchestrated by Nightshade's employer Erik Killmonger so that Black Panther and Falcon could summon some other heroes to the scene. Dontrell, Stiletto, "Boss" Morgan, and Cottonmouth battled Black Panther, Falcon, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage in Harlem until the sudden arrivals of Black Goliath, Brother Voodoo, and Everett K. Ross arrived to help stop the villains.[5]

During the Shadowland storyline, Dontrell appears as a member of Nightshade's Flashmob (which also consists of Chemistro III, Cheshire Cat, Comanche, Mr. Fish II, and Spear) where they are sent to attack Victor Alvarez on a rooftop. Dontrell fired on Victor until his gun was crushed by Luke Cage upon his and Iron Fist's arrival. The Flashmob was remanded to Ryker's Island. Nightshade's solicitor secured the release of Dontrell, Mr. Fish II, and Spear.[6]

During the Spider-Island storyline, Dontrell was with Flashmob when they tried to leave a spider-infested Manhattan only to be defeated by Heroes for Hire.[7]
