Dolphin Discovery is a Mexican company which offers interactive programs with dolphins, sea lions and manatees in six locations in Mexico: Puerto Aventuras (Riviera Maya), Cozumel, Cancun-Isla Mujeres, Six Flags Park Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta. They use the animals to fleece tourist out of hundreds of dollars for pictures. Their prices start at $40 for a single picture or $70 per person per experience for a CD. Family of 4 that participate in two experiences will get a hard sale for $560 for 2 CDs. Some customers are able to talk them down, but most leave with no pictures and a feeling of being ripped off. Out of Mexico, it has three more locations: the islands of Grand Cayman, Tortola and St.Kitts.

The company started operations in Cancun and Isla Mujeres in 1990. Dolphin Discovery currently offers programs with dolphins, manatees, sea lions, stingrays,and sharks.

Dolphin Discovery in Cozumel, Mexico

Dolphin Discovery offers six activities involving Dolphins, Sea lions and Manatees. Ranging from $59 to $179, the activities give buyers the opportunity to get up close and personal with these Marine mammals at the Chackanaab National Marine Park. All activities give tourists the chance to interact with the marine animals. Each dolphin program gives the up close experience of Swimming with dolphins[1]

Manatee Encounter

A program is the only one of its kind in the Caribbean, visitors are given the experience of getting up close and personal with Manatees. Getting close enough to hug and kiss these creatures which are up to 13 ft/4m long, 1300 lbs/600 kg.[2]

Sea Lion Discovery

This program not only gives visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with Sea lions, but to also learn about the way they live their everyday lives such as learning about their diet. This activity through Dolphin Discovery is the only one on the island of its nature.[3]

Dolphin Swim Adventure

In this activity visitors are able to interact with Dolphins, getting the chance to hug, kiss and swim with the Dolphins by holding their fins as they swim backwards. With the snorkel provided in this activity, guests are able to see the Dolphins in their natural environment and see how they move in the water.[4]

Dolphin Encounter

This activity is ideal for children. visitors who choose this program do not need to be in the water swimming because it is all viewed from a platform. Guests still receive the opportunity to get close enough to touch the Dolphins, being able to hug, kiss and shake hands with the Dolphins. People taking part in this activity also get to witness the amazing show put on by the Dolphins featuring a dance, singing number and interact with the Dolphins by playing a game with them.[5]

Dive with Dolphins

During this program, tourists are able to swim freely with the Dolphins with scuba gear. in 25 ft deep water, visitors are able to kiss and hug the Dolphins as well as being able to observe them jumping and show off their talents in singing, dancing and barrel rolling around partakers. The duration of this activity is one hour.[6]

Dolphin Royal Swim at Cozumel

This program is the most action packed and gives the most up close interaction with the Dolphins at the Chackanaab National Marine Park. Visitors in pairs get to experience the dolphin foot push, jump, kiss and hug. This program also gives time for free swim time with two dolphins.
