Dodworth St John the Baptist CofE Primary Academy is a coeducational primary school with academy status located in Dodworth, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England.
It was previously a voluntary aided school, which meant the school was established by an organisation other than the Local Education Authority (LEA), in this case the Church of England. This gave the school specific rights and responsibilities which differed from those of non-aided schools. In particular, the school staff were appointed and employed by the governors rather than the LEA, with just over half of the governors themselves appointed by the Church of England Diocesan Board of Education and Dodworth Parochial Church Council.
However on 1 January 2014 the school converted to academy status while still under the administration of the Church of England. The school decides on their own admission arrangements and can give special emphasis to a Christian religious education, while not forgetting the importance of providing pupils with a broad understanding of the world and its peoples. The school foster close links with various Christian churches and denominations, which are represented by the Governing Body.
The running costs of the school are met by the government. However, the school buildings themselves belong to the Church of England and the governors are responsible for meeting the costs of any repairs or improvements that are carried out.
