División de Honor B is the second Spanish league competition for rugby union clubs. The league began in 1998 and consists of three groups (North, East and South) of 8 or 9 teams each. The top two teams of each group play promotion playoffs.
Competition
Format
The format is similar to División de Honor. The División de Honor "B" season takes place between October and April. There are three groups of 12 teams each one, with every team playing each other home and away for a total of 22 matches. Points are awarded according to the following:
- 4 points for a win
- 2 points for a draw
- 1 bonus point is awarded to a team scoring 4 tries or more in a match
- 1 bonus point is awarded to a team that loses a match by 7 points or fewer
Promotion and relegation
The regular season runs through 22 matchdays. Upon completion of the regular season, the two top teams of each group qualify for the promotion playoff, consisting of a group stage of two groups of three teams each one, with the top team of each group advancing to final playoff being promoted to División de Honor the winner team, while the loser teams play an extra-playoff against the team qualified 11th in División de Honor.
Teams qualified 11th and 12th at standings play the relegation playoff to Primera Nacional.
