Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Lopes arrived in Portugal in 2008, after a short spell at Palmeiras and joined Benfica.[1] During his time in the Lisbon-side, he helped the club win national titles in the Under-15 and Under-17 classes, as first choice ahead of Bernardo Silva.[2]
