Devarakonda is a Nagara panchayat and Mandal headquarter in the Nalgonda district,Telangana,India.[1] Recently, it has been given revenue division status by the government. It forms an assembly constituency (Devarakonda (ST) (Assembly constituency)) along with Chandampet, Chintapally, Gundlapally and P.A.Pally mandals. It is connected with Nalgonda, Nagarjuna Sagar, Miryalguda and Hyderabad, Srisailam and Mahbubnagar by road.

History

Devarakonda is well known for its Fort which was built by Recharla Padmanayakas (Velama Kings).The 8th generation king of Recharla King, Mada nayaka built this fort in 14th centuary AD.Many great kings had ruled this fort some of them are 2nd Singala naayak,Linganayaka,Peda dana nayaka etc.There are many places like Koneru (Pond), Lord Shiva Temple to be visited near fort. The Government Logo (Purna Khumbha) of Former Andhra Pradesh is taken from the rock carvings present near the fort.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Devarakonda had a population of 37,434. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Devarakonda has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81% and, female literacy is 63%. In Devarakonda, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Devarakonda is politically active in the Telangana area foreseeing the national interests. People in this small town are patriotic and you can see temples welcoming the hill side place. Recently the government has decided to declare Devarakonda as "Nagara Panchayath".

Specialty

Devarkonda have many specialties one of those is ,it is never ruled by the kings of other dynasty or clan.Kings like bahamani sultans ,reddy kings have been trying to win this fort but it was not possiblebecause these velama kings were very brave,courageous and had lots of self respect
