Demeter Fragrance Library

DemeterFL, Inc. is a Great Neck, New York company that sells over 200 different fragrances based on familiar, "everyday" scents, such as baby powder, dirt, gin & tonic, play-doh and tomato, under the brand name of 'Demeter'. Within Europe, the company's products are available under the brand name of 'The Library of Fragrance'. The fragrances are intended to be an precise representations of these odours, which Demeter calls "single-note, linear-experience fragrances" . This is in contrast to most traditional perfumes, which combine a larger range of scents (or fragrance 'notes') within their formulas, to create more complex fragrances, which evolve and change on the wearer's skin over time.

In 2007 Demeter introduced of the Jelly Belly Collection--a group of scents inspired by Jelly Belly jelly bean recipes--as well as Crayon ("smells like that fresh box of crayons on the first day of school"), Pure Soap ("The smell of freshly scrubbed skin"), and Egg Nog. Most recently, in 2015, Demeter / The Library of Fragrance launched Mountain Air, which is a clean, fresh scent inspired by the air of Alaska.

Demeter fragrances are cologne concentration, which means that the concentration of perfume oil within the carrier of alcohol is 2-4%. The label on the bottles describes each as "pick-me-up cologne spray", opposed to more commonly seen fragrance formats, such as eau de toilette or eau de parfum, which have a higher ratio of perfume oil to alcohol and may therefore last longer on the skin of the wearer.

Besides its cologne sprays, Demeter Fragrance Library makes other products scented with the same fragrances, such as body lotions, shower gels, exfoliant scrubs and room sprays. Demeter products can be found in stores throughout the USA and are sold in over 35 different countries around the world. In the UK, 100 fragrances are available from The Library of Fragrance website and 28 of the brand's best-sellers can be found at Boots stores around the UK and ROI and on Boots.com.

Actor Clint Eastwood and supermodel Kate Moss have both claimed to wear Demeter's Dirt, while actress Drew Barrymore wears Gin and Tonic .
