Delphix is a Menlo Park, California-based software company that develops software for simplifying the building, testing, and upgrading of applications built on relational databases.[1][2] Delphix is known for developing systems that virtualize data in databases and speed up the development of software applications. In 2013 the Delphix Agile Data Platform became an SAP Endorsed Business Solution.[3] The company’s clients include New York Life Insurance Company, Walmart, Cisco Systems, Clorox, Deutsche Bank, McDonald's, Royal Bank of Canada, Facebook, and Comcast, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and Informatica.[4] The company’s CEO is Jedidiah Yueh.

History

Delphix was co-founded in 2008 by Jedidiah Yueh and Charlie Zha.[5][6] Before founding Delphix, Yueh founded Avamar, a data de-duplication company.[7][8] Avamar was sold to EMC in 2006 for $165 million.[8][9] Prior to founding Delphix, Zha founded DSG Data where he invented Database Block Level Incremental Backup, leading Oracle by 5 years. After leaving Delphix in 2010, Zha joining VMWare team in creating another database virtualization product, VMWare vFabric Data Director. He also participated in product management of VMWare vSphere Big Data Extension, which was also open sourced as Serengeti.

In 2009, Delphix received $8.5 million in Series A Funding from Greylock Partners and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The company was awarded $11 million in Series B Funding in 2010, also from Greylock and Lightspeed. In 2012, Delphix received $25 million in Series C Funding from Jafco Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Summit Partners, and Battery Ventures.[10] Fidelity Investments led the Series D Funding Round in 2015, raising $75M.[11]

Product

Delphix enables more efficient data management, and making application development faster and more efficient is the company’s core business.[2] The software allows clients to virtualize data in relational databases, allowing them to complete application projects at lower costs and 20–80% ahead of schedule.[1][2][5][12][13]

Clients’ existing database management systems, such as Oracle Database or Microsoft SQL Server, remain in place, with Delphix’ software running alongside them. The software is generally deployed on-premises.[1][10]
