The Old Delhi – Meerut – Saharanpur line is a railway line connecting Old Delhi and Saharanpur. This page includes the Meerut - Khurja link. The line is under the administrative jurisdiction of Northern Railway.
History
The railway line between Old Delhi and Meerut was constructed in 1864.[1]
The Sind, Punjab and Delhi railway completed the 483-kilometre-long (300 mi) Amritsar – Ambala - Saharanpur – Ghaziabad line in 1870 connecting Multan (now in Pakistan) with Delhi.[2]
Electrification
As on 1.4.2010, 112 km out of a total of 254 km of the Khurja - Meerut - Saharanpur line including the Ghaziabad - Meerut sector was electrified.[3] Electrification of the Ghaziabad - Meerut sector was completed in 2012.[1] The Khurja- Meerut City section was made operational with Electric traction in 2014.
Loco shed
Ghaziabad electric loco shed serves the Delhi area. It housed 47 WAP-1 locos in 2008. It also has WAM-4, WAP-4, WAP-5, WAP-7 and WAG-5HA locos.[4]
