David Fumanelli (born April 21, 1992 in Milan) is an Italian racing driver.

Career

Formula Renault 2.0

Fumanelli made his single-seater debut in 2008 in his native Italian Formula Renault 2.0 series, driving for RP Motorsport. He finished the season in 25th place after scoring points in three of his twelve races.[1]

Formula Three

In September 2008, Fumanelli made his Formula Three debut at the Magny-Cours round of the Spanish Formula Three season. At the following event in Valencia he was involved in a violent accident with Spanish driver Carmen Jordá, which resulted in a short stay in hospital after he sustained damaged vertebra.[2]

Fumanelli remained in the series for 2009, the first of three full seasons in the category with RP Motorsport. He finished his first full-season in eighth place after recording two late-season victories at Jerez and Barcelona. In 2010, he took three race wins to finish the year third overall, tied on points with the Team West-Tec entry of Callum MacLeod. With both drivers having won three races, the position was decided by the most second-place finishes, with MacLeod taking the position by virtue of his four second-place finishes to Fumanelli's one.[3]

2011 saw Fumanelli finish as championship runner-up, behind Corbetta Competizioni's Alex Fontana.[4] After a slow start to the season, which saw just one podium finish in the first eight races, he took four race victories in the final eight races to finish eight points behind the Swiss driver, which became five points once dropped-scores were taken into account.

Between 2009 and 2011, Fumanelli also contested eight races of the Italian Formula Three Championship, taking a best race result of ninth in the 2010 season finale at Monza.[5]

GP3 Series

Following a successful test at Jerez in December 2011, Fumanelli will graduate to the GP3 Series in 2012, racing for the MW Arden team.[6]
