Dash Radio is a digital radio broadcasting platform with more than 60 original stations.[2] These stations are curated by DJ’s, radio personalities, musicians, and music tastemakers. The platform includes partner stations curated by Snoop Dogg, Odd Future, Kylie Jenner, Mac Miller, Isaac Hayes, Tech N9ne, Grenco Science, XXL Magazine, East Village Radio and others. Dash Radio has no subscription fees and is commercial free.[3][4][5][6][7]

History

Dash Radio was launched in August 19, 2014 by radio/TV personality and music executive Scott Keeney, better known by his stage name DJ Skee.[8] Keeney raised seed funding through investments from Dave Morin and Kevin Colleran of Slow Ventures investment firm, L.A. Reid (CEO Epic Records), Matt Michelsen (CEO & Founder of Backplane), Michael Lazerow (Salesforce), Adrian Peterson (RB Minnesota Vikings), amongst others. After launching out of beta in June 2015, Dash Radio reported having over 1,000,000 listeners on its platform.[9]

On November 12, 2015 Dash Radio announced the platform has grown to more than 3,000,000 subscribers, with users spending an average of 35 minutes per session on music channels and 90 minutes per session on talk stations.[10]

Distribution

The Dash Radio platform is available for Android, iOS, via desktop browsers, Sonos in-home wireless audio speaker system, and in automobiles through the AT&T Connected Car platform, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Pioneer Electronics.[11][12]

Pluto TV- On November 24, 2014, Pluto TV announced a partnership with Dash Radio which will add the Dash Radio app to the Pluto TV platform.[13]

AT&T- On January 5, 2015, AT&T announced its partnership with Dash Radio, adding the app to AT&T Drive, its connected car platform.[14]

Sonos- On September 30, 2015, Dash Radio announced a partnership with Sonos, in-home wireless audio speaker system, that connects the Dash Radio app directly to the Sonos platform.[15][16]

T-Mobile- On December 1, 2015, T-Mobile announced it's partnership with Dash Radio, adding it to its Music Freedom Program.[17]

Odd Future Radio

On September 12, 2014, Odd Future announced its own station on Dash Radio, Odd Future Radio.[6] The station features curated music and hosted shows by Odd Future members including Taco Tuesdays hosted by Taco, Clancy’s Mullet hosted by Odd Future manager Christian Clancy, Big Daddy Mix hosted by Big Daddy, Hall of Flamez hosted by DJ Body Oil aka Domo Genesis, Mike G Monday hosted by Mike G, Illegal Civ hosted by Illegal Civ, Hodgywood hosted by Hodgy, Jasper Show hosted by Jasper, DJ Rocky’s Treehouse hosted by DJ Rocky, and The Shane Show hosted by Shane Powers.[6][18]

Tyler the Creator's Stankdaddy Radio Powered by Dash Radio

On May 5, 2015 Tyler the Creator released Stankdaddy Radio available via Tyler the Creator's Golf Media app powered by Dash Radio.[19]

Snoop Dogg’s Cadillacc Music

On April 14, 2015, Snoop Dogg’s Cadillacc Music station was launched on Dash Radio, featuring music curated by Snoop Dogg and DJ mixes by DJ Snoopadelic. Cadillacc Music also features daily shows from radio legends Art Laboe and Kevin Slow Jammin James.[12]

Kylie Radio Powered by Dash Radio

On September 14, 2015, Kylie Radio was launched via the Kylie Jenner Official App and is powered by Dash Radio. Kylie Radio features special mixes and curated playlists from Kylie Jenner and her friends.[20]

Mac Miller's Remember Music Radio

On December 19, 2014, Mac Miller announced his own curated station on Dash Radio, Remember Radio. Remember Radio includes premieres of new songs from Mac Miller, artists on the label, special guest DJ sets, and a live show called Dahntahn hosted by Quentin Cuff of Rostrum Records and Vine Star Nick Colletti.[3]

Playboy Radio by Dash Radio

On September 10, 2015, Dash Radio announced that Playboy Radio would join its platform. Playboy Radio will feature curated music and shows such as Ask the Doc, Backstage Pass, Swing, Music Spotlight, etc.

East Village Radio

On June 3, 2015, East Village Radio was relaunched on Dash Radio, after being shut down in May 2014. East Village Radio was established in June 2003 in New York City and for more than ten years DJs would broadcast from a storefront studio in the East Village of Manhattan. East Village Radio is responsible for playing Drake and Adele’s music before any other radio station in the US.[21]

Independent Grind Radio Powered by Tech N9ne

On August 19, 2015, Tech N9ne and Strange Music announced their partner station with Dash Radio called Independent Grind, the first all-independent hip-hop radio station. The station plays all independent hip-hop music and features news, highlights and exclusive interviews with independent hip-hop artists.[22]

The Shane Show Station

On January 25, 2015, The Shane Show was given its own station on the Dash Radio platform, due to its popularity on Odd Future Radio. The Shane Show station airs The Shane Show reruns throughout the day.[23]

Pop Up Stations

Dash Radio also creates brand partner "pop-up stations" available for a limited time to listeners. Past pop-up stations include Entourage Radio, GRAMMYs On Dash, FIFA '15 Soundtrack, NBA 2K15 Soundtrack, HARDfest, Sunset Music Festival, A3C Hip-Hop Festival, Dewey Beach Festival, International Dance Music Awards, Christmas In The City, Christmas Lane, Country Christmas, Fireworks (July 4 station), Kristian Bush of Sugarland Takeover, Winter Music Conference, Wu Week Pop-Up (premiere of their album "A Better Tomorrow"), Summertime with DJ Jazzy Jeff (during Labor Day Weekend), Stevie Wonder Salute, Halo 5: Guardians Radio, The FADER 100, and Kurt Cobain Montage of Heck Pop-Up Station in partnership with Universal Pictures.[12][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31]

Personalities

DJ Skee

DJ Skee is the founder of Dash Radio, curates "Skee 24/7" and hosts the "SkeeMix w/ DJ Skee". DJ Skee currently hosts Skee TV airing on Fuse, a weekly music series highlighting music and culture through live performances and interviews. Formerly, Skee hosted shows on Los Angeles' KIIS-FM and Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Skee is the first DJ to discover and play superstar artists on the radio such as Kendrick Lamar, Justin Bieber, Akon, Lorde, and Lady Gaga.[32]

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg is the founder/producer/curator of "Cadillacc Music" station and premieres DJ Snoopadelic mixes on the station. Snoop Dogg is a legendary hip-hop artist, actor, and DJ from Long Beach, CA. Snoop has sold over 35 million albums worldwide including Doggystyle, Tha Doggfather and Reincarnation. He was discovered by Dr. Dre of N.W.A and made his music debut in 1992 on Dr. Dre's solo debut album The Chronic.[33]

Tyler, the Creator

Tyler, the Creator is a hip-hop artist/producer, co-founder of the alternative hip-hop collective Odd Future, and curator/host of Odd Future Radio. Tyler began making music in 2007 with Odd Future's core members: Earl Sweatshirt, Left Brain, and Hodgy Beats. He debuted his album Goblin in 2011, Wolf in 2013, and Cherry Bomb in 2015.[34]

David Faustino

David Faustino is an American actor and host of "Old Scratch Radio" Sundays on Skee 24/7. Faustino is most known for his role as Bud Bundy on the 90s TV show "Married… with Children", and for voicing Mako in The Legend of Korra.[35]

Kevin McHale

Kevin McHale is an actor and artist as well as one of the four hosts of Sick of My Voice Show on Main Stage. Kevin McHale played Artie Abrams in Fox's award winning show Glee.

Paul van Dyk

Paul van Dyk is a Grammy Award Winning electronic dance music DJ, musician, producer, and host of Vonyc Sessions with Paul on Electro City. Paul van Dyk was the first artist to receive a Grammy nomination in the newly added category of Best Dance/Electronic album for his 2003 release Reflections. He has sold over 3 million albums worldwide.[36]

Tara McDonald

Tara McDonald is an English singer/songwriter and host of "I Like This Beat" on Electrocity. Tara is best known for working and co-writing with Armand Van Helden and Axwell on the hits "My My My" and "Feel the Vibe", both debuting at number one. "I Like This Beat" is a one-hour show currently syndicated in more than 40 countries and 50 radio stations.

Opera Joe

Joe McKesson also known as Opera Joe is an opera singer, music director, digital marketing and media executive, and the curator of Concerto station. Opera Joe is currently the Vice President of Classical Programming at Dash Radio. For over 3 years, Opera Joe was head of Classical Music at iTunes and Director of Digital Media & Online Marketing at Classical KING FM 98.1 in Seattle, Washington. McKesson previously worked for Warner Music Group, BMI, and MTV Networks.[37]

Trevor Moran

Trevor Moran is a musician, YouTube star, and radio host of “Trevor Live” on Press Play. Trevor first joined YouTube in 2008 at age 10, and in August 2012, he joined a collab channel on YouTube known as O2L (Our Second Life), which hit 2 million subscribers on June 12, 2014.[38] In early September, Moran released his debut single entitled "Someone". In early December 2013, Moran released another single, entitled "The Dark Side" with much success and entered the Billboard Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart at #25.

Kreayshawn

Kreayshawn is a hip-hop/pop singer/songwriter and the host of "Lost in Thot" on The Cut station. She made her music debut in 2011 when she released the music video to her internet viral debut single "Gucci Gucci". The single’s popularity earned her a recording contract with Columbia Records helping her release her debut studio album, entitled Somethin' 'Bout Kreay, on September 14, 2012.[39]

Poo Bear

Poo Bear is a Grammy winning singer/producer and host of Happy Birthday Radio on The City station. Poo Bear co-wrote his first hit single for platinum selling R&B group 112 titled, "Anywhere", at 14 years old. Since then he has worked with The Rolling Stones, Whitney Houston, Sinead O'Connor, Pink, Kelly Price, Faith Evans, Carl Thomas, Jagged Edge, Glenn Lewis, Patti LaBelle, Dr. Dre, Lupe Fiasco, DJ Khaled, Drake, Rick Ross, Justin Bieber and many others. He has earned a total of four Grammy’s for his work on Usher Raymond's Confessions album, Jill Scott's Words and Sounds: Volume 1 album, and Chris Brown’s Fame album.[40]

T-Boz

T-Boz is a member of TLC and hosts iCraft Radio on the XXL Radio station. T-Boz is a singer, songwriter, model, dancer, actress, author, and executive producer that has won five Grammy Awards for her work with TLC. In 2013, alongside group-mate Chilli they executive produced the VH1 biopic CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story which aired on October 21, 2013, actress Drew Sidora portrayed Watkins.[41]

Dan Digs

Dan Digs is a veteran DJ and host of the Future Pop show every weekday only on Dash 1. Dan also producers music, works as a music TV and radio host, curates music, writes music, and is a musician.[42]

Mac Miller

Mac Miller is a hip-hop artist, producer and curator for REMember station. His debut album, Blue Slide Park, released November 8, 2011, was number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. In 2013, Mac Miller released his second album Watching Movies with the Sound Off, on his own label REMember Music. Mac Miller is also a record producer under the pseudonym Larry Fisherman. Miller is also becoming known for taking on multiple alter-egos, under the aliases Delusional Thomas and Larry Lovestein & The Velvet Revival, respectively.[43]

Francia Raisa

Francia Raisa is an actress and host "WTFrancia"on Main Stage.

DJ Babu

DJ Babu is a hip-hop DJ and the host and curator for Beat Junkies Radio. DJ Babu is also a member of the Beat Junkies DJ crew, and together with rapper Defari forms the duo the Likwit Junkies, as well as one-third of the hip hop group Dilated Peoples (alongside Rakaa Iriscience and Evidence).[44]

Kenny Hamilton

Kenny Hamilton hosts Connected with Kenny Hamilton on Dash 1. Kenny Hamilton was Justin Bieber's former road and tour manager. Hamilton is the former Director of Influencer Marketing at Beats Music. Currently, Hamilton is a partner in the h.wood group who handles the entertainment/music/celebrity side of the business.[45][46]

Tech N9ne

Tech N9ne is an American rapper, founder of record label Strange Music, and curator of Independent Grind station. He has sold over two million albums and has had his music featured in films, television, and video games. Tech N9ne holds the record for performing 96 shows in 106 days. Tech N9ne has worked with Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Machine Gun Kelly, and many others. In September 24, 2013, Forbes Magazine named Tech N9ne "Hip-Hop’s Secret Moguls"[47][48]

Trae tha Truth

Trae tha Truth a southern hip-hop artist and host on Banned Radio on XXL radio. He is a part of the underground rap collective Screwed Up Click. Trae Tha Truth has also worked with fellow Houston rapper Chamillionaire on his various Mixtape Messiah series. Trae released his seventh album "Tha Truth" July 2015, with features from Nipsey Hussle, T.I., J Cole, Ty Dolla Sign, and more.[49]

Red Cup Nation

Recording artist/DJ-duo Matt Hilfiger and Perry Rothstein produce and host "Red Cup Nation" on the Loud station. In the last two years, Red Cup Nation has performed over 90 shows including SXSW 2015, Panama City Spring Break, South Padre Island Spring Break, and at over 35 colleges throughout the US. Hilfiger and Rothstein headlined their own three independent tours called Sunglasses At Night, Best Time of My Life, and the sold out Go Hard x Go Home Tour, which earned them a feature in Forbes Magazine’s Top 30 Start Up Businesses. They are the first DJ/producer duo to be featured in the category.[50]
