Darren Brownlie (born 10 April 1994) is a Scottish footballer who plays for Queen of the South as a defender.

He began his career at Ayr United, and after his first senior season was signed by Partick Thistle. Unable to break into their first team, he moved to Cowdenbeath, initially on loan, and then Queen of the South in 2015.

Career

Ayr United

Born in Bellshill, Brownlie began his career at Ayr United. He made his debut on 8 July 2012 in the first round of the Scottish Challenge Cup, playing the entirety of a 3–1 defeat away to East Stirlingshire.[2] Two weeks later, he made his first Scottish Football League appearance, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1–1 Scottish Division Two draw with Stenhousemuir at Somerset Park.[3] In the last of his 16 league games that season, a 2–1 loss at Forfar Athletic, he was sent off for two bookings: the first for conceding a penalty kick with a foul on Chris Templeman, and the second for dissent of the referee's decision to award the penalty.[4]

Partick Thistle and Cowdenbeath

In August 2013, Brownlie joined Partick Thistle. He scored in a 4–0 win over Falkirk for the under-20 team that month,[5] but did not make a senior appearance, being loaned to Scottish Championship club Cowdenbeath on 17 January 2014 for the remainder of the season.[6] He made eleven league appearances for the Blue Brazil, and also played their four play-off matches as they retained their status in the second tier with victories over his former club Ayr, and Dunfermline Athletic.[7]

At the end of the season, Brownlie joined Cowdenbeath permanently.[8] He played 23 league games in a campaign which ended with instant relegation, and scored his first career goal on 14 February 2015, equalising as they came from behind to win 2–1 at Dumbarton.[9]

Queen of the South

On 17 June 2015, Brownlie returned to the Scottish Championship, being signed by Queen of the South player-manager James Fowler, his former Cowdenbeath teammate.[10]
