Dariyabad is a town and a nagar panchayat in Barabanki district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.
History
It is said that, Dariyabad (Hindi:दरियाबाद Urdu:دریاباد ) was founded in 1436 AD and stablished in 1444 AD. Dariya Khan was posted as viceroy after Sultan Mirza Badshah, and came to Awadh (Lucknow) and stayed in Imperial castle in Mahmudabad. Since this place was famous due to violence by bhad(भड़) tribe, later viceroy Dariya Khan freed this place by Bhad tribe and named this place as Dariyabad on his own name. But as per some old age seniors and references Dariya Khan was an Officer of Delhi kingdom.
Literature and celebrities
Dariyabad is famous town as a birthplace of Maulana Abdul Majid Dariyabadi.
Dariyabad has been an important place of literary creations, both in Hindi and Urdu/Persian literature.
Qasim Shah(Dana Shah), son of Amanullah was born in 1731 AD, he carried forward the literary tradition of Sufi-atic poetry. He has given a very interesting ACCOUNT in Hans-Jawahir, the love story of Hans, the son of Sultan Budhaan Shah of Balkh-Bukhara and Jawahir the daughter of Alamshah of China.
Ravi Dutt Mishra from Dariyabad of Garib Dhan fame was born in 1769 AD. He was a great Scholar, astrologer, writer and a learned personality. He wrote a number of books, renowned ones include, Basant Raj, Dhanurved, Mat Chintamani Durga Mahotsav, Mahurat Prakash.
Shankar Dayal Awasthi also from Dariyabad wrote Shivsiya Bratbodh, Shankar Pramod, Sankshipt Sankshep Ramayan etc.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Dariyabad had a population of 15,661. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Dariyabad has an average literacy rate of 67%, lower than the national average of 79.9%: male literacy is 74% and, female literacy is 61%. In Dariyabad, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
