Danny Lane (born 1955) is an American sculptor[1] associated with public art in the United Kingdom. He lives in London and works mainly in glass. He has been described as "a master of form and light".[2]
Early life
Lane was born in 1955 in Urbana, Illinois, in the United States. He studied with the stained glass artist Patrick Reyntiens, and then attended the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. He then went to the Central School of Art, where he studied painting under Cecil Collins.[3]
Work
Lane has been commissioned to create numerous works of public art.[4] These include Opening Line at Gateshead Interchange in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear;[5] the glass balustrade on the staircase and mezzanine of the main gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum;[1] Ellipsis Eclipses at The Gate, Newcastle,[6] which cost £163,000;[7] Child of Family by the Civic Centre in Southampton;[8] and Assembly Field outside the Senedd (National Assembly for Wales) in Cardiff.[9]
