Early life

Guba was born on 11 August 1952 in Isabela, Basilan in the Philippines.

Career

Guba began his training in Eskrima-Kali-Arnis in 1964 in Cebu, Philippines. Guba learned from prominent practitioners of Eskrima. From 1964–1986, Guba trained under Magdalino Nolasco, Filimon Canete, Dionisio and Ciriaco Canete; from 1979-1988 under Bonifacio Uy; and from 1981-1988 under Vicente Carin.

Guba has toured New Zealand, the United States and Europe conducting seminars for many of the driving forces behind Martial Arts who wished to expose Filipino Martial Arts to their respective countries. After this world tour he returned to the Philippines and continued teaching in the Doce Pares headquarters, where he was visited by many foreign students from around the world who had met him during his tour.

In 1996 Guba decided to leave the Philippines and moved to the United Kingdom where he now lives in the city of London where he began to promote Doce Pares Eskrima.

Guba Doce Pares

Guba is the founder of Guba Doce Pares International and the highest authority of Doce Pares Eskrima in the United Kingdom and Europe. He is the head of the organisation and is currently based in London, UK.

Guba Doce Pares International is a clan of authentic Filipino Eskrima-Kali-Arnis with direct lineage to the original Masters and their old teachings. Guba has been training since 1964 and spent decades with these late great Masters training on a one to one basis with them. Guba was the close quarters (Corto) sparring partner of the legendary SGM Ciriaco Cañete of BBC documentary series 'The Way of the Warrior' fame for several years. Guba was also a long-term student of another legendary SGM Dionisio ‘Diony’ Canete of Human Weapon and Mind, Body and Kick Ass Moves fame and the current head of Doce Pares Eskrima-Kali-Arnis worldwide. Over the years Guba added his own discoveries and movements to the system which resulted in the creation of an authentic version of Doce Pares, namely Guba Doce Pares International.

Guba hosts full-contact single-stick sparring, double-stick sparring, knife-sparring and Sayaw (form) tournaments. The two major Guba Doce Pares International tournaments in the United Kingdom are 'Quest for the Best - Open Championships' and 'Quest for the Best - Winter Battle'. Guba has also trained British, European and World Champions who have gone on to establish their own Guba Doce Pares schools in the United Kingdom and worldwide.
