Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibōgamine Gakuen (Japanese: ダンガンロンパ3 –The End of 希望ヶ峰学園–, lit. "Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy") is an upcoming television anime series scheduled for 2016, which is being directed by Seiji Kishi at Lerche. It is part of Spike Chunsoft's Danganronpa video game franchise, serving as a conclusion to the "Hope's Peak Academy" storyline established in the games Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.
Plot
Taking place immediately after the events of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair,[1] the story focuses on Makoto Naegi and his friends Kyoko Kirigiri, Yasuhiro Hagakure and Aoi Asahina and serves as a conclusion to the storyline of Hope's Peak Academy, the elite school that played host to the evil Monokuma's "killing school life".[2][3] The story will also introduce several new characters.[1]
Production
The series is being animated at the anime studio Lerche.[4] It is supervised by series creator Kazutaka Kodaka,[2][4] who also is in charge of the original scenario concepts. It is directed by Seiji Kishi, written by Norimitsu Kaihō, composed for by Masafumi Takada, and featuring character designs by Kazuaki Morita and Ryoko Amisaki. Returning characters are designed by Rui Komatsuzaki. The series was announced at a Danganronpa press conference in December 2015,[2] and is planned to premiere in Japan in 2016.[4]
The series is intended to be the final chapter of the "Hope's Peak Academy" series within the Danganronpa franchise,[2] while the third main game in the series, New Danganronpa V3: Minna no Koroshiai Shingakki, focuses on a new setting and set of characters;[3][5] according to the Danganronpa development staff, it is difficult to work on both the anime and New Danganronpa V3 at the same time, but that they are giving it their all since the opportunity to do something like it does not come up often.[1] Initially, an anime adaptation of Danganronpa 2 had been planned, but in the end the development staff opted for making an anime that takes place after Danganronpa 2 instead. While there had originally been plans to conclude the "Hope's Peak Academy" storyline with something involving class trials, it was thought that it would have been too painful for the characters to go through another killing game, which was what led to the decision to make the conclusion into an anime.[1] According to Kodaka, the series will feature content that can only be expressed within the anime medium.[2] The production staff intend to make the series suspenseful, despite not including any investigations.[1]
