The fifteenth season of Dancing with the Stars premiered on the Seven Network, on 19 July 2015.[1] It was the first season to be hosted by Shane Bourne,[2] following the decision of former host Daniel MacPherson not to return to the role, instead focusing on his acting career.[3] Edwina Bartholemew returned as co-host. Todd McKenney, Helen Richey and Kym Johnson returned as judges.[1] Adam Garcia did not return due to his wife's pregnancy.[2] Bruno Tonioli served as a special guest judge from Weeks 1-3.[4]

On 7 September 2015, radio and television presenter, Emma Freedman and her partner, Aric Yegudkin, defeated Olympic diver, Matthew Mitcham and his partner, Masha Belash and My Kitchen Rules contestant, Ash Pollard and her partner, Jarryd Byrne.[5] Freedman is the first female winner since Bridie Carter in Season 7.[5] This is Yegudkin's second win, his first win was with Ada Nicodemou in Season 3.[5]

Couples

News Corp revealed the first celebrity joining the cast as Olympian Matthew Mitcham.[6] Season six My Kitchen Rules finalist Ash Pollard confirmed via social media that she was a contestant in the upcoming season and that she had already started training with Jarryd Byrne.[7] Model Samantha Harris was confirmed on 17 June 2015.[8]

Before the season began, Kelly Cartwright, one of the celebrities in the cast, announced she is expecting her first child in December 2015.[9] On July 17, 2015, professional dancer Giselle Peacock also announced in a Facebook posting that she is pregnant with her first child.[10]
