Daniel "Dan" Orsi (born 31 March 1992) is a Scottish footballer who currently plays for Glenafton Athletic in the Scottish Junior Football Association, West Region. He has previously played in the Scottish Championship for Queen of the South.
Career
Orsi is from Dumfries and a former pupil at Dumfries Academy. As well as playing in the youth set up for Queen of the South, he made his début for the first team coming on as a sub in a friendly in season 2009-10 against Celtic. Orsi has been selected to date in six squads for the Scotland under-18 international team, namely for the games against Australia, New Zealand and then the Centenary Shield games against Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England.[1] Queen of the South team mate Dean Thomson was also selected initially selected but withdrew due to tonsillitis.
Orsi has also competed in the Scottish schools cross country running championship.[2]
On 25 July 2010 Orsi was announced on the Queens website as having officially signed as opposed to having previously been on a youth contract. The bulletin announced the similar signings of Steven Degnan, Ian McShane and Gavin Reilly.[3]
In Orsi's sixth game for Queens he picked up the man of the match award.[4] This was on 26 March 2011 in the 4-1 league win at Palmerston Park against Stirling Albion.[5] In his next game, three days later, this time away at Stirling Albion, he scored his first senior goal. In the fourth minute he was first to a pass from Colin McMenamin and put the ball through the keeper's legs and into the net. However in the sixteenth minute he was stretchered off with a knee injury after making an awkward challenge. Queens won the game 2-0.[6]
Orsi moved on loan to Annan Athletic in February 2013 and played in the clubs' famous victory over Rangers at Ibrox the following month.[7][8] After his release from Queens in December 2013, Orsi rejoined Annan on a deal to the end of the season.[9][10]
Orsi joined Junior side Glenafton Athletic in June 2014.[11]
