Daniel Andrew Middleton (born 8 November 1991, Aldershot, England) is a British YouTube personality and professional gamer who goes by the handle The Diamond Minecart or DanTDM. His online video channel mainly focuses on the popular game, Minecraft. As of 11 February 2016, he has over 9.4 million subscribers and is listed among the top YouTuber channels in the United Kingdom.[2] In 2014, Middleton's yearly income has been calculated to be in between $213,000 and $2.15 million.[3] In July 2015, his channel was listed as one of the most popular YouTubers in the world.[4]
Early life
Middleton is the oldest of two siblings and was born on 8 November 1991 in Aldershot, England.[5] His parents divorced while he was a child.[5]
Career
Middleton started a YouTube channel dedicated to Pokémon while at university, in which he called himself "PokemanDanLv45". In 2012, Middleton created The Diamond Minecart, a more professional, children's-focused gaming channel. His YouTube channel name eventually changed to TheDiamondMinecart // DanTDM. He also started the vlogging channel, MoreTDM, in which he posts videos about what's going on his life.[6] Middleton has his attention mainly on the popular game, Minecraft. He does Mod Showcases, Mini Games, and other custom made adventures. In Minecraft, he has created several virtual characters, such as his friend Dr Trayaurus, and his dog Grim. Middleton has presented Let's Play videos for other games such as The Sims 4 and Spore.
Public appearances
Middleton has been a regular guest at the Insomnia gaming festival, where he appeared on the big stages in editions 49, 52 and 53. He was also featured twice on BBC's Technobabble - where he commented on several videogames,[7][8] and once on ITV's Lorraine - where Middleton talked about being a YouTuber.[9]
Awards
- Guinness World Record Book Gamers Edition 2016 for most goals scored on 'rookie' level in 2vs2 multiplayer (co-op) on the football game, Rocket League.[10]
- 2015 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award in the category UK Favourite Tipster[11]
